STEP INTO SWIM is an initiative of the Pool & Hot Tub Alliance committed to creating more swimmers. Every child deserves access to safe swimming education and the ability to feel confident, inspired, and empowered in the water. In funding learn-to-swim programs across the country, STEP INTO SWIM is making waves in the name of drowning prevention and serves as a go-to resource for all things water safety.
Through our program, we create a strong partnership with swim programs and grant them funding through our philanthropic program to provide swim lessons. We work with programs such as the American Red Cross, Jewish Community Centers, School Districts, State Parks, USA Swimming, YMCAs, and more.
Offering lessons in New York, New Jersey, or Connecticut? Thanks to our partnership with the Stew Leonard III Water Safety Foundation, applicants from these states may qualify for a grant partnership between Step into Swim and the Stew Leonard III Water Safety Foundation.
On January 1, 1989, Stew Leonard III (“Stewie”), lost his life in a drowning accident at just 21 months old. This sparked his parents, Kim and Stew Leonard Jr, to pledge to do everything in their power to prevent this tragedy from striking other families, since drowning is a leading cause of death in children under five. In 1990, they founded the Stew Leonard III Water Safety Foundation in memory of their son. Its mission is to educate children and families on water safety. Since 1990, the Foundation has raised $6 million to help fund training thousands of lifeguards and providing hundreds of thousands of free or low-cost swim lesson for children in need.
If you have a program interested in partnering, complete the application form. Please note you will need a copy of a current W9 and insurance policy in order to complete your application.
